Family-Friendly Fun Awaits in Nassau

[ad_1]

Looking for the ideal destination for a summer family vacation?

Nassau, the Bahamas, could just be the place. With an abundant offering of family-friendly activities and a host of accommodation options, the Caribbean island paradise awaits multigenerational groups of any size.

What’s most impressive is the area’s numerous family-friendly activities that include outdoor adventure, marine wildlife, pirate experiences and unique flora and fauna.

Here are just a few ideas to inspire a family getaway to Nassau:

Aquaventure at Atlantis

What kid doesn’t love a thrill ride? For that, head to Aquaventure at Atlantis Paradise Island. The waterpark offers families a 141-acre playground filled with waterslides, a lazy river, swimming areas and more all with an Atlantean theme.

Sanctuary at Baha Mar

An underwater world awaits at the Sanctuary at Baha Mar. The experience is both a conservation effort as well as a celebration of nature. There are dozens of activities for visitors, including up-close experiences with turtles, rays and native birds. For the very brave, guests can also snorkel with nurse sharks.

Pirates of Nassau Museum

It’s Pirate Day every day at the Pirates of Nassau Museum.

The fun, interactive downtown experience offers an educational and entertaining perspective on the history of pirates. Onboard the Revenge, guests learn about the Golden Age of pirating, which lasted between 1690 to 1720, with Nassau at its heart.

Ardastra Zoo and Gardens

This is the first and only zoo in the Bahamas and it is a true tropical paradise with more than 4 acres of gardens and animal species, including the Caribbean flamingo, the national bird of the Bahamas.

Guests can feed parrots, take a free educational seminar and watch flamingos marching.

Tour Local Forts

The forts of Nassau bring history to life. These seaside strongholds allow guests to explore the ramparts, drawbridges and even the dungeons of Fort Charlotte, Fort Fincastle and Fort Montagu on family-friendly tours.

Horseback Riding

Change up the everyday beach experience with a morning horseback ride along the shore. Happy Trails Stables takes guests along Nassau’s unspoiled coastline for a one-and-a-half-hour-long trail ride that leads to the sea.

Get to Know the Local Wildlife

While Nassau may offer guests the chance to experience some traditional wildlife-viewing activities, guests should not ignore some of its more unique inhabitants—most famously it’s island-dwelling pigs and it’s adorable iguanas.

Bahamian rock iguanas on Allen’s Cay is where you can find these “fearsome” (but friendly) creatures. There’s also Big Major Cay, home to the swimming pigs. Exuma Escapes takes visitors to both of these locales for opportunities to feed the iguanas, see the swimming pigs and also swim with sharks and sit in a sunken plane.

Where to Stay

Nassau presents visitors traveling on any type of budget myriad options when it comes to accommodations. Resorts such as the Comfort Suites allow free access to all amenities at Atlantis.

Grand Hyatt Baha Mar is the area’s newest resort and, at the Coral at Atlantis, newly renovated guestrooms await.

There are also plenty of options for larger families that give groups a home-away-from-home such as the Sunrise Beach Club & Villas, Paradise Island Beach Club and the Harborside Resort at Atlantis.
