Certified Destination Management Executive (CDME) training, offered through a partnership with Destination International and Travel Alberta, wrapped earlier this month, marking the first time training has been offered in western Canada.
A CDME designation is the highest individual educational achievement in the tourism industry and contributes significantly to an already sophisticated leadership in the sector. Travel Alberta considers the opportunity as a big win, as hosting the program locally creates improved access for multiple local Destination Marketing Organization (DMO) professionals to participate. In total, representatives from seven of Alberta’s DMOs took part in the initial course in Banff with additional sessions to be held again in the fall.
Training programs like this benefit the Alberta tourism industry by growing the leadership and marketing capabilities of participants from across the province, who then are able to better support their members. It is also a chance for Alberta participants to connect and share best practice with peers from marketing organizations across North America; 50 per cent of participants are from outside of the province.
The CDME accreditation program elevates the credibility of destination organizations with a focus on vision, leadership, productivity and business strategy through to implementation. Travel Alberta initiated the partnership and continues to coordinate and support the professional development of Alberta-based destination marketing organizations.
Travel Alberta has a number of resources and tools available to all industry partners. More information on the Travel Alberta industry site.
