Air Canada inaugurates new non-stop Vancouver – Dublin flights

VANCOUVER, BC and DUBLIN – Air Canada‘s inaugural flight AC1940, from Vancouver departed last Friday afternoon (June 10), marking the only non-stop service linking Vancouver and Ireland. Air Canada Rouge brings their hallmark customer service excellence to these seasonal flights between Vancouver and the Irish capital city, which operate three times weekly until October 8 with Boeing 767-300ER aircraft.

“We are pleased to add the only non-stop flights from Canada’s West Coast to Ireland. This route offers convenience to Western Canadians travelling to visit and explore the Emerald Isle’s rich landscapes, world-class golf and historic sites, as well as to Irish customers visiting the spectacular attractions Vancouver and British Columbia offer,” said Benjamin Smith, President, Passenger Airlines at Air Canada. “We continue to strategically expand our Vancouver hub, and our seasonal Dublin flights follow our recent launch of non-stop flights from Vancouver to Brisbane, San Diego, Chicago, San Jose, and the doubling of our daily flights to London Heathrow.”

“YVR’s customers now have non-stop service to the Emerald Isle thanks to Air Canada Rouge,” said Craig Richmond, President & CEO, Vancouver Airport Authority. “This new service will connect Vancouver to a country known for its natural beauty, amazing history and rich culture. It will also open new opportunities for European businesses and travellers, connecting them to our world-class city and airport.”

Flights are timed to optimize connectivity to and from Air Canada’s extensive BC regional network through the airline’s Vancouver hub. All Air Canada flights provide for Aeroplan accumulation and redemption and, for eligible customers, priority check-in, Maple Leaf Lounge access, priority boarding and other benefits.

As a result of its ongoing expansion, Air Canada provides scheduled passenger service directly to 64 airports in Canada, 55 in the United States and 87 in Europe, the Middle East, Africa, Asia, Australia, the Caribbean, Mexico, Central America and South America.

The new Vancouver-Dublin service is part of Air Canada’s ongoing international expansion this year, following the recent launch of Vancouver-Brisbane, Montreal-Casablanca, Toronto-London Gatwick and Toronto-Prague. This summer, Air Canada will also launch new international services between Toronto-Budapest, Toronto-Warsaw, Toronto-Glasgow, Toronto-Seoul, Montreal-Lyon and later this fall, Vancouver-Delhi. Last year, Air Canada launched new international services between Toronto-Delhi, Toronto-Amsterdam, Toronto-Dubai, Montreal-Venice, Montreal-Mexico City and Vancouver-Osaka.

Air Canada Inaugurates Toronto-Budapest Service
Also, the first arrival of flight AC1910 from Toronto-Pearson on June 11th at Budapest Ferenc Liszt International Airport further extends Air Canada Rouge’s presence in Central Europe. The non-stop seasonal service, operating three-times a week, offers customers the most seats between North America and Budapest of any airline.

“We are pleased to add Budapest, a city rich in heritage along the banks of the Danube, to our growing international network. The new service makes Air Canada the carrier operating the most seats between the Hungarian capital and North America. While an important tourist market, there are also many people of Hungarian heritage in North America and this new service will make it convenient for family, friends and relatives to visit one another by connecting through our Toronto-Pearson global hub. Budapest is the second Central European destination we have introduced this summer, with Prague recently launched and Warsaw to commence operating June 14,” said Benjamin Smith.

Flights will be operated with an Air Canada Rouge Boeing 767-300ER, featuring Premium Rouge and Economy cabins.  Flights will depart Toronto on Monday, Wednesday and Friday and return Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday from Budapest, with the service operating until October 15, 2016. Flights are timed to optimize connectivity to and from Air Canada’s Toronto-Pearson global hub.  All flights provide for Aeroplan accumulation and redemption and, for eligible customers, priority check-in, Maple Leaf Lounge access, priority boarding and other benefits.

Air Canada Resumes Fort McMurray flights from Toronto, Calgary, Edmonton, Vancouver
“We extend a warm welcome to our Fort McMurray customers and in particular, to people  who are returning home. We also want to thank the employees of our Air Canada Express partner Jazz, the team at Fort McMurray International Airport, the first responders and the countless men and women who are working around the clock for their extraordinary efforts in assisting Fort McMurray, and for their tireless work in making the return to commercial air service possible today,” said Kevin Howlett, Senior Vice President, Regional Markets & Government Relations at Air Canada.

“It’s been our privilege to transport members of Team Rubicon, many other first responders and to transport medical supplies for Global Medic in our support for Fort McMurray. We are working closely with all partners involved to help get Fort McMurray residents back home as quickly, conveniently and comfortably as possible.

“To accommodate returning residents, we are actively adding capacity from cities across Canada to Alberta, and scheduling larger aircraft including our 400-seat Boeing 777 aircraft to Alberta.  We expect to ramp up to our full schedule in the coming weeks, once the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry operational restrictions for commercial airlines are lifted,” concluded Kevin.

As our flight schedule to Fort McMurray is subject to change due to the Alberta government’s Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry’s commercial operating restrictions in place to ensure the safety of both active firefighting and commercial carriers using the airspace, we strongly recommend customers check the status of their flights prior to departing for the airport.

Air Canada normally operates up to two daily flights between Fort McMurray and Toronto, and up to 10 daily Air Canada Express flights between Fort McMurray and Edmonton, Calgary and Vancouver.
