A Kelowna business has been honoured as “best for the world” for positive environmental impact.
GreenStep Solutions received the recognition Friday (Sep 9) from B the Change Media and the non-profit organization B Lab.
The Best for Environment list recognizes businesses in the top 10 per cent of more than 1,800 Certified B Corporations globally. They are assessed on impact on workers, community, customers and the environment.
The 143 winning companies come from 15 industries and 17 countries. Besides GreenStep, only nine other Canadian companies have achieved the status.
Companies were judged on environmental performance through their facilities, materials, emissions, and resource and energy use, including transportation/distribution channels and environmental impact of their supply chain.
The assessment also measures whether a company’s products or services are designed to solve an environmental issue, including products that aid in the provision of renewable energy, conserve resources, reduce waste, etc.
“GreenStep is so excited to be a part of this movement of companies around the world using business as a force for good … this recognition gives us confidence that we are on the right track,” said GreenStep CEO Angela Nagy.
GreenStep provides business consulting, certification and software. Its work includes organizing Bike to Work Week for the City of Kelowna, working with UBC Okanagan and Okanagan College on waste audits, more than 1,400 energy assessments for businesses across B.C. and more.
The awards were handed out at the University of California, Berkeley’s Haas Business School.
