Following Monarch Airlines’ entry into administration, the Israel ministry of tourism is inviting flight operators to tender in operating direct flights from the UK to Eilat, Israel.
The ministry is offering to reimburse the successful operator for every passenger flying to Ovda Airport, the nearest airport to Eilat, on flights approved to the sum of €45.
The reimbursement for flights of a single operator from one city will be limited to 75 rotations during the year.
Eilat enjoys warm temperatures all-year-round, making it the ideal destination for tourists looking for sunshine in the midst of UK Winter.
The city is situated on a sole land bridge between Asia and Africa, the most southernmost point of Israel and is home to a beautiful coral reef, serene granite mountains and is a short drive to Israel’s breathtaking Desert Land, the nature phenomenon of Ramon Crater and the Red Sea and Dead Sea.
Sharon Bershadsky, director for Israel Government Tourist Office, commented: “We were sorry to learn of Monarch’s administration and our sympathies are with passengers who have travelled or are planning to travel to Israel with the airline.
“Eilat’s economy relies heavily on tourism from the UK, and we hope that flight operators will continue to help us showcase what a beautiful destination it is.”
In an effort to encourage direct flights from the UK to Eilat, the ministry will consider proposals from flight operators until October 14th.
