Someone in the Okanagan Valley has committed to doubling all donations made to the rail trail for 10 days.
The donor, who wishes to remain anonymous, will be matching all donations from July 1-10, up to $50,000.
“My donation will build just over 300 metres of trail and by working together, we can create over 600 metres. That’s a better part of a kilometre,” the donor explained in a press release.
Organizers have a goal of raising $7.86 million for the rail trail. Every $160 donated will fund a meter of construction. To date, there has been 272 individual donations and 937 metres of the trail has been funded.
“Donations have been coming in every day and the support is fantastic. We want construction to start early next spring; however, we will need a lot more and this just might inspire that,” said Brad Clements, a trail ambassador.
The first fundraising target for the trail is $500,000, which will be used for design and access control. So far, 30 per cent has been donated for that goal.
