In the record year Vienna recorded 15,510,000 visitor bed nights in 2017, up 3.7 per cent on 2016.
At the same time, the Austrian capital saw a 3.7 per cent increase in individual arrivals, to 7,097,000.
Vienna’s ten top performing markets were headed by Germany, with 3,116,000 bed nights (up five per cent), followed by Austria, the United Kingdom, and Italy.
Net room revenues generated by the hospitality sector – with January-November 2017 currently evaluated – amounted to €709 million, an increase of seven per cent.
The Viennese hospitality sector has an accommodation capacity of approximately 66,000 hotel beds, with room occupancy of around 76 per cent.
“Over the coming years, we shall be concentrating our priorities on sustainable and value-adding growth, internationalization and even stronger networking of the tourist players in Vienna,” explained director of tourism, Norbert Kettner.
“The Vienna Tourist Board is also addressing local residents, whose positive attitude towards tourism is a tremendous asset for Vienna: according to our latest representative study, 96 per cent of Viennese have a positive attitude towards tourism.”
