Winter Blasts Big White

It sure looks like winter at Big White.

While Kelowna’s ski hill isn’t scheduled to open for more than three weeks, a large dump of the white stuff over the weekend transformed the hill from a summer paradise to a winter wonderland.

Mountain visitors and residents have been enjoying a number of snowy nights and days over the last week, starting last Monday night and culminating in an additional 29cm of fresh snow over the weekend.

“We’re exceptionally grateful that Mother Nature turned up her nose at all the naysayers and sprinkled some more of our world-famous Okanagan champagne powder over the weekend,” said Michael J. Ballingall, Senior Vice-President of Big White Ski Resort.

“It just goes to show you, never fool with Mother Nature.”

The snow base has accumulated to the point where groomers have started track-packing in the Village, knocking the air out of the snow to sustain and maintain the snow for the upcoming season.

Big White has invested in a number of additions that will make this season bigger and better than ever.

These include a brand new groomer, a new magic carpet in the tube park and the new Black Forest Day Lodge.

Big White Ski Resort opens for the 2015/2016 season on Thursday, Nov. 26.
