B.C. provincial parks had their most popular year ever for camping reservations in 2015.
This year, 159,000 advance bookings were made in provincial parks, up 19 per cent, or 24,000 additional reservations, from last year.
“The pride British Columbians have in our magnificent parks is clearly reflected in the increasing numbers of people and families who enjoy them,” Environment Minister Mary Polak said in a statement. “I am thrilled that so many visitors, from throughout the province and around the world love our treasured parks and are making sure they get outside to enjoy them.”
Statistics recently released by the province show 73 per cent of reservations came from within B.C., while 14 per cent came from Alberta.
Four per cent of reservations came from the United States and seven per cent from overseas.
Nearly half of all overseas visitors were from Germany.
In addition to the increase this year, reservation numbers jumped 13 per cent between 2013 and 2014.
