Alberta Open Farm Days is an exciting opportunity for local farmers and ranchers to share stories and experiences while connecting with their urban and rural neighbours. The two-day event is held on August 18 and 19 — showcasing local agriculture, culinary experiences, and ag-tourism by inviting the public to join-in and experience the farm in-person.
Producers and ag-tourism operators can sign up using the online registration form available on the Alberta Open Farm Days website. The application deadline is May 31, 2018.
“The continued growth of Open Farm Days demonstrates that it’s a hit with Albertans and helps the province’s producers and agri-businesses recognize their ag-tourism potential,” said Ricardo Miranda, Minister of Culture and Tourism. “Whether it’s sharing stories on where our food comes from or showcasing everything rural Alberta has to offer, I encourage farmers and ranchers to open their gates, get involved and take advantage of this incredible opportunity to expand their markets and grow ag-tourism.”
This year’s Open Farm Days follows a record-breaking event in 2017 that included 101 host farms, more than 20,000 visitors and $146,000 in on-farm sales.
Alberta Open Farm Days is a partnership of Alberta Culture and Tourism, Alberta Agriculture and Forestry, the Alberta Association of Agricultural Societies, the Alberta Culinary Tourism Alliance and Travel Alberta.
