Uninhabited islands, pristine beach coves, authentic local cuisine and some of the best sailing routes in the world – these are just a few of the highlights on offer as small-group adventure operator, G Adventures, re-launches their sailing tours in the British Virgin Islands.
Following the impact of hurricane Irma last year, the seven-day ‘Sailing the British Virgin Islands’ trip will return on February 3rd and, in a bid to support local tourism, will be one of the first tours to return to the islands.
Sailing from, and returning to, the island of Tortola on a 47ft catamaran, the tour will see travellers snorkelling in caves, swimming with turtles, cycling around the volcanic islands and, of course, putting up sail to explore the BVIs’ turquoise waters.
Designed for travellers will all levels of sailing experience, and with plenty of shore time, the tour takes advantage of the low tourist numbers by encouraging travellers to get to know the friendly locals, dine at their restaurants, visit their businesses and enjoy a truly authentic island experience.
“Now is the perfect time to visit the BVIs: locals are excited to welcome visitors, restaurants are open for business and, with less tourists around, travellers can enjoy the relaxed local atmosphere, natural sites and wildlife without the crowds,” explained Vince Donnelly, global sailing manager, G Adventures.
Other highlights include a visit to the Caribbean paradise of Guana Island, which consists of seven white powder-soft sand beaches and acres of tropical forest, mountains and hills and a natural hot tub bath amongst the granite boulders on Virgin Gorda Island.
