Malta Tourism Authority appoints new MICE leadership in UK

The Malta Tourism Authority has added to its UK team with the appointment of Lindsey Thorpe as the new UK & Ireland MICE manager.

Thorpe will be managing all opportunities within the MICE sector for the tourist board.

With a strong background in the MICE market, she joins after nearly four years as MICE account director at a London based agency.

Previously managing a team across multiple destination convention bureau accounts, Thorpe brings to the MTA an expertise in delivering European and UK trade shows and events, executing destination strategies and ultimately driving sales in the MICE sector.

Delighted to be joining the UK team, Thorpe said: “Malta is the perfect destination for meetings, conferences and incentives.

“The island has a such a unique offering for the UK MICE market; from convenient and ever-increasing accessibility to the destination, a range of hotel stock for all group budgets, a unique heritage and culture that have shaped the destination balanced with a fun and lively nightlife.

“I look forward to continuing to promote these opportunities to the UK market.”

An exciting few years ahead for the MICE market in Malta, the Mediterranean island will see the opening of several hotels and experiences that cater to the MICE client.

Next year will see the opening of the Malta Marriott Hotel & Spa, following a rebrand of the Le Méridien property and 2020 will see the launch of the Hard Rock Café; a MICE epicentre complete with 37,000 square feet of planned function space and the largest convention centre on the island.

Peter Vella, MTA UK director commented: “Malta’s tourism industry is currently breaking all records as tourists and business travellers from across the world discover our unique blend of sunshine, culture, history, beauty and hospitality.

“We are delighted to have Lindsey on board and are confident that her expertise in the meetings, incentives, conferencing and exhibitions will help to showcase our island as a premier European MICE destination.”
