SHiFT experiential travel training program coming to Sylvan Lake

SHiFT, Travel Alberta’s annual experiential travel training program, will be held in Sylvan Lake March 18-21, 2019. The program is one of Travel Alberta’s most unique and sought-after courses and is the only opportunity of its kind in Canada.

“SHiFT has the potential to transform the way you do business and I’m always amazed at the incredible new experiences that are created as a result of the program. These new experiences are helping to grow tourism across the province and we have seen everything from mindful snowshoeing, sake sunset tasting, to holding concerts in an underground cave.”

– Shelley Grollmuss, Vice President, Industry Development, Travel Alberta

“As a community, Sylvan Lake has been expanding our special events, activities, and tourism initiatives beyond the summer months, to offerings in all seasons – truly making us a town that is ‘brilliant all year.’  We’ve made tremendous strides in building local infrastructure and we are excited now to be creating and enhancing unique-to-Sylvan-Lake experiences that will help to grow our local economy.”

– Sean McIntyre, Mayor, Town of Sylvan Lake

The program is an immersive and collaborative three and a half day learning opportunity developed to help participants create the kinds of experiences today’s travellers are longing for.

SHiFT combines classroom training and visits to local businesses that are piloting new experiences, leaving a lasting legacy in a different community each year.

Since SHiFT launched in 2015, more than 47 new tourism experiences have been developed. Visitors are looking for a wide variety of high quality and authentic tourism experiences. SHiFT gives Alberta a competitive advantage by helping tourism operators expand their offerings and grow tourism across the province.

The 2019 SHiFT program is a partnership between Travel Alberta, Alberta Culture and Tourism and Town of Sylvan Lake. Tourism Café leads the SHiFT curriculum and experience development and has been delivering experiential travel training for more than 15 years.

Registration for Travel Alberta’s Sylvan Lake SHiFT opens October 1, 2018. More information on all of Travel Alberta’s programs can be found on industry.travelalberta.com.
