The Westbank Museum and Arts and Crafts Society considers themselves to be the “front porch” of the community, and as such, the Society is hoping to install a nine-foot tall statue to welcome visitors and residents alike into the region.
The Society went before West Kelowna Council on Tuesday, requesting their support for the Front Porch Welcoming Project in the Westbank Centre.
With approval, coordinators of the project will likely implement a statue depicting a First Nation man and woman, a fur trader, and a pack horse.
The Society is also working with Westbank First Nation and would like the statue to be place on the green space between Dobbin Road and Main Street, near the intersection with Gellatly Road.
Council offered their support and referred their request to City staff to work with the Museum Society, in order to bring the project to fruition.
