OTTAWA — The latest numbers from Statistics Canada show that Canadians are making fewer trips to the United States, both by car and by air.

Canadian residents made 3.5 million trips to the U.S., down 1.0% from January, but still up 7.2% compared with February 2016.

Fewer Canadians took car trips to the U.S., in both same-day car trips (down 0.8% to 1.8 million) and overnight car trips (down 1.1% to 921,000). Overnight travel to the U.S. by plane was also down in February, declining 2.1% from the previous month but up 6.3% from the same month last year.

The number of trips by Canadian residents to overseas destinations has been on an upward trend since August. 2016.
